Arrival in Stockholm
We arrived at our first stop in Sweden (Stockholm) late on a Friday afternoon on the midsummer holiday weekend. Stina and Ove Källtorp were there to meet us. I had met Stina through the internet and she had sent me translations of a number of letters from long ago that had been exchanged between my great-grandparents and their relatives in Sweden. Stina's great-grandparents are my great-great grandparents. Unfortunately, my baggage had not made the transfer with us at our stopover in London. Julie's made it through fine. I was promised that it would show up during the night and that it would be brought to me where we were staying. I picked up our rental car and we all drove to Stina and Ove's apartment in the Hammarbyhamnen area of Stockholm. We stayed with Stina and Ove while in Stockholm both at the start and end of our visit to Sweden. It wasn't until two days later that the luggage was delivered. Everything shuts down for this special holiday. We had a wonderful time with Stina and Ove and very much appreciate their hospitality.

Stina and Ove's Home and City
Here are a few pictures from Stina and Ove's apartment and from the area nearby. When we arrived home I found that I had taken only video and not still pictures at the Källtorp's apartment so I've extracted a few frames from the video to use as photos here. Unfortunately, the resolution and quality are not as good as if I had taken still pictures.

Birka
We took a boat trip from Stockholm down Lake Mälaren to the island that was historically known as Birka. Birka was an important center of trade for Northern Europe for 200 years. The town was founded in the late 8th century and abandoned before the end of the 10th century. It was considered Sweden's first real town. For more information, check here.
