A Visit with Lasse

Our first stop after leaving Stockholm was Linköping to visit with one of my distant relatives on my grandmother's side, Lasse Johansson. I came across Lasse when I first started researching my Swedish ancestry in 2002. Lasse and I were researching the same family name on the internet and ended up with each other's e-mail address. Lasse helped me find information about my ancesters. A few weeks before leaving for Sweden on our first trip in 2003, Lasse discovered that we are related and that we share grandparents about five generations back.

Bob and Lasse

These are pictures from Lasse's apartment, of the city and our hotel, and the nearby countryside

My grandmother's ancestors came from a copper mining community not far from Linköping. The mine shut down in 1917 but there are still a few 19th century houses left where the mining community once existed. These pictures are from Bersbo and from the mining museum nearby. Julie is in one of the museum pictures and the other people are Anna Karlson and Dan Göransson, employees of the museum. Julie and I were both struck by Anna's stunning blue eyes.
